Gameplay

The player controls a ribbon maneuvering through a winding cave. It's necessary to maintain continuous, controlled action to place the ribbon in the cave to avoid the walls. If the Standard or Expert levels are chosen, then it will also be necessary to avoid rocks that appear at random intervals and varying sizes.

Controls

Main Menu

  • Select option between joysticks and difficulty-up/down on joystick or D-pad
  • Select number of joysticks or difficulty level-left/right on joystick or D-pad
  • Begin game-any button

In-game

  • Action (player one)-button one and two
  • Action (player two)-button three and four

Scoring

Avoid collision with cave walls and rocks to earn points. The farther the player makes it the higher the score.

Spike's Spree

Gameplay

The player controls Spike in his effort to save Molly from Spud. To save Molly, the player needs the key to open the cage. Spud will send his creatures, the Bouncer and the Bird, to stop the player and only Molly's bow can hold them back. The action gets faster and faster with each level. If Spike comes into contact with Spud or his minions then the player will lose a life.

  • Move Spike around screen-joystick or D-pad

Scoring

  • Collect key-100 points
  • Collect cage-200 points
  • Save Molly-300 points
  • Collect key, then cage, then save Molly (in order)-2000 points

Trivia

  • It's believed that only about 84 copies of the game exist, though Packrat Video Games, LLC has announced that they will soon be selling the game again. No ROM is available. The physical game is necessary to play it.
  • Of the 84 copies believed to exist, fewer have boxes and far less have overlays.
  • VeCaves was one of the first games to feature in-game music.
  • VeCaves/Spike's Spree was originally sold at the Classic Gaming Expo in 2002.
